Game Engine/Language: Lönn

Role: Solo Dev

Duration of Work: 4 Weeks

End Of Project: 17th February 2026

This is a map that I made in Celeste for my Experimental Level Design module. We had many games to pick from to make a level in but I chose Celeste because it is one of my favourite games.

I focused on mechanic led design, keeping the wave dashing mechanic at the forefront of all of my level design choices.

To make this, I needed to learn Lönn which was originally a challenge but became second nature towards the end of the project.

I also made sure the level looked aesthetically nice when making it and tied in features of the map editor such as stylegrounds and tile palettes.

Here is a video showcasing the level in full:

This project taught me valuable level design skills such as pacing, difficulty ramping, tutorialisation, and mechanic led design.

Here is my level design document for the project:

About Liam Burns

I am a Computer Games Design graduate who studied at the University of Staffordshire. Mechanics and Technical Design are my favourite aspects of game design but I am able to do any general design work. I enjoy working in a team to refine and condense ideas to help make a better product.
